I'm happy to let you know that both John Metselaar and Avi Goldstein have accepted positions on the board! Welcome and we are excited to have you on the team.

This was probably one of the busiest weeks for the club in a long time. The bowling tournament was a huge success and the food was amazing. Thank you Erin and CJ for organising! I'm no longer the raining champion. :(

Thanksgiving was impeccably organised by Maggie with many families and Jo Anne doing a wonderful speech! I hope she will share the video with everyone?

The Angel Tree fundraiser at Thanksgiving and FF was extremely successful as Erin sold out all 25 Angels and raised 730 Euros! All the gifts have been purchased and we look forward to delivering them on St Nicks day!

Membership has been growing with 17 new members in the last 30 days! We will keep the promotion going until the holiday party that they get to join the holiday party for free and get the rest of 2016 free!

The year is nearly over, but don't miss the holiday party as we see the beautiful Grand Place on December 9th! We also have our tour of the Christmas Market on December 18th and Game Night at ChezWawa on December 12th

Have a wonderful weekend and see you all soon.

Thanksgiving at the Sheraton was wonderful as always, but a big thank you needs to go to those that contributed to the Angel Tree. If you weren't able to make it (or donate), it's not too late to help us raise money for the St. Nicholas parties at the Alsemberg refugee centre and La Cité Joyous orphanage

Join us at Final Friday tonight at the Stanhope and make a donation to help purchase gifts for these children.

How it works: Choose an angel tag from the tree and then place the angel tag and monetary donation into one of the gift boxes next to the angel tree. We will get the gifts on your behalf!

Alternatively, you can take a tag, shop yourself, and then drop off the gift at the American Women’s Club of Brussels at Avenue des Erables 1, 1640 Rhode St Genèse or Cross Border Planning at Av. De Saisons 110, 1050 Brussels by no later than Monday, November 28th.

We thank you for your generosity!

Thank you to Fresh Response for the picture and all the great work!

It is with great pleasure that we write to invite you and your fellow members of The American Club of Brussels to the First Brussels Christmas Charity Ball on Saturday 17 December 2016 in the Le Plaza Hotel in Brussels. More than 300 prominent international and Belgian guests will enjoy a fairytale Christmas atmosphere in the magical Theatre Hall, evoked by the unique cultural combination of world-class Russian ballet and a gastronomic gala dinner, with a heart for charity.

The first edition of the Brussels Christmas Charity Ball is organized to raise funds in aid of local Belgian projects for SOS Kinderdorpen Villages d’Enfants Belgium, a non-governmental organization active in the field of children's rights and committed to children's needs and concerns.

The evening will commence with a Champagne & Caviar cocktail from 19.30, followed by a gastronomic three-course dinner at 21h – accompanied by a sublime piano recital.  In between the courses, you will be dazzled by sketches of live ballet performed by the stars of the worldwide renowned Russian Theatres of Mariinsky and Mikhailovski. By performing The Nutcracker ballet, we want to symbolize the love and support SOS Kinderdorpen Villages d’Enfants has brought to vulnerable children. Ending with an artistic auction and a cocktail party, the Brussels Christmas Charity Ball will leave you and your fellow members with a treasured memory.

We would be delighted if you were to be our guest at the First Brussels Christmas Charity Ball. As an independent personal initiative, we would equally be very appreciative if you could forward this invitation amongst fellow members who could be interested. As such, we took the liberty to herewith send you a few leaflets of the Charity Ball.

Additional information about the First Brussels Christmas Charity Ball, together with details about SOS Kinderdorpen Villages d’Enfants, are available on the website Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at any time via e-mail at or by telephone at 0468/32.17.74.

Hen's Teeth is a new duo featuring Jane Rothfield and Nathan Bontrager, two powerhouse and inventive American roots musicians who specialise in old time Appalachian music. They first met at the legendary Clifftop festival in West Virginia, where they spent hours exploring cello, fiddle, banjo and guitar combinations as the musical sparks flew! Hen’s Teeth make music that’s firmly rooted in tradition, combined with their own inventive and unique styles. Janie and Nathan both sing, and they each play fiddle, banjo and guitar too (not at the same time!). With the addition of Nathan’s cello, the instrumental and musical combinations are practically limitless!

Over 2.5 million eligible voters living abroad could make a critical difference in battleground states, as they rush to get in their ballots ahead of the deadline.

With the US election just one week away, Americans in Belgium and other countries are hurrying to send in their ballots before the polls close. The US allows its citizens to vote, no matter how long they have living abroad, differently from other countries. And depending on the state in which they vote, Americans can send their ballots by express mail or fax up to November 8th, the date of the election. Their votes will help decide not only the Clinton vs. Trump battle, but also many tight races for the Senate and House of Representatives - and that could make a difference in whether or not Barack Obama’s eight-year legacy will be preserved.

Americans abroad make up a formidable voting block and would be the 13th largest state if they were counted together. And every one of those votes counts. It is worth remembering that George W. Bush was ruled the winner of the Florida election by only 537 votes. That is why organizations like Democrats Abroad Belgium (DAB) are encouraging all Americans to make their voice heard.

“By now, registered voters should have received and mailed in their ballots. If they haven’t, we’re encouraging them to vote via the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot, which they can download off our website,” said Pauline Manos, Chair of Democrats Abroad Belgium. “These votes make a difference – and they’re even more crucial in this election cycle with what is at stake.”

As Americans go to the polls on November 8th, Democrats Abroad Belgium will take part in the Election Night party hosted by The American Club of Brussels and The Bulletin. And it’s not just Americans who will be watching the results - tickets to the event at the Marriott Grand Place Brussels quickly sold out, as demand was strong for the party where live music, debates, discussions, and streaming commentary from the US will keep voters and spectators entertained throughout the night.

Democrats Abroad Belgium will also hold a morning-after Election Results Breakfast event on November 9th from 7 to 11a.m., at the Marriott. Journalists, DAB members, and others can sign up for this free event at

For more information, contact Pauline Manos, Chair - Democrats Abroad Belgium, at chair- or at +32-497-591-897. You can also visit the DAB Facebook Page and DAB Website
