The American & Canadian Reading Group

On the second Wednesday of the month, from 19:00  to 21:00 you are invited to join our Reading Group to discuss the book-of-the-month, written by an American or Canadian author. We meet once a month, our evening get-together is in the Brussels area.

    Reading Group guidelines/criteria:

We look for great authors who write in English, available for purchase in shops or online, not more than 300-400 pages, and prefer those that have a score of at least 4/5 on Goodreads.  The books do not have to be recent; they can also be ones you loved, and we might have missed.

Interested in joining the Reading Group?

The Reading Group meets in member's homes in Brussels and the surrounding area.  As such, it is restricted to members of the AWCB and ACB.  Current members of the AWCB and ACB are encouraged to reach out bookclub@awcb.org with any questions.

Non members can find the conditions to join either club on their respective websites

Our panel discussion will delve into the practical realities of creating art within circular economy principles, examining how sustainable practices manifest differently across various artistic contexts and cultural backgrounds. We'll explore how for some artists, sustainability represents a conscious environmental choice, while for others, these practices are culturally ingrained or natural ways of living.

    Panel Focus Areas

    • Defining Circular Economy in Art: Understanding what sustainable art practices mean in today's context

    • Cultural Perspectives: Exploring how different cultural backgrounds influence approaches to sustainable art

    • Practical Challenges: Discussing the real-world obstacles artists face when adopting zero waste practices

    • Consumer Impact: Examining how art buyers can drive industry-wide environmental consciousness

Showcase of Sustainable Artworks: Featuring actual examples of zero waste art practices

    Featured Panellists

    • Ann-Christine Racette - Artist and Founder of Sapientera, bringing invaluable expertise in sustainable art practices.

    • Sandra Agbessi - Co-founder and Artistic Director of the Brussels Africa Center, offering unique cultural perspectives on sustainability in art.

Both panellists will share insights about their respective approaches to sustainable practices and present examples of their work, creating a rich dialogue about the future of environmentally conscious art.

    Why Attend?

This event offers a unique opportunity to:

    • Learn about circular economy principles in an artistic context

    • Discover how your art purchasing decisions can create positive environmental impact

    • Explore diverse cultural approaches to sustainable art practices

Brussels Bowling is a small, quaint bowling alley in Ixelles with 6 bowling lanes and nice leather seating.  It is 2 blocks from the Boulevard General Jacques and the tram line running there and an 8 minute walk from the Etterbeek train station.   Street parking is available but can be challenging so allow some extra time to find parking.

      Event fees:

      Members:  29 euros

      Partner club:  33 euros

      Non-members:  35 euros

The event fee includes 2 bowling games, bowling shoe rental and 3 finger sandwiches that we will provide (with meat and vegetarian fillings).  Drinks are available at the cash bar (they also take American Express).  You can feel free to bring along extra snacks like chips, pretzels, or whatever else you fancy (but drinks must only be purchased at the bar).

Please register by noon on October 10th so we can organize the sandwiches and confirm numbers to the bowling alley.  You can register here to attend:  https://www.americanclubbrussels.org/event-6339147

We look forward to seeing you there!

      The Bridge Theatre proudly presents...

      tICK, TICK...BOOM!

      14 October  – 2 November, 20:00

Stassart House - Rue de Stassart 34, Brussels

We are thrilled to announce that ACB members get a 10% discount to the Brigde Theatre's latest theatrical production: tick, tick...BOOM! A musical by Jonathan Larson, the creator of Rent, directed and choreographed by Ewan Jones.

Jon, an aspiring composer, is nearing 30 and feeling the pressure. While waiting tables, he struggles to finish the musical he hopes will change everything. But time is ticking — his girlfriend wants to leave the city, his best friend has chosen a corporate path, and Jon is torn between security and a dream that may never come true. Fueled by a driving rock score, this semi-autobiographical story pulses with passion, doubt, and possibility.

This renowned musical which received a movie adaptation by Netflix a couple of years ago is now coming to Belgium for the first time ever by The Bridge Theatre.

Starring Djavan van de Fliert (Frozen, Les Misérables – West End), Dan Buckley (The Book of Mormon – West End), and Laura Marie Benson (Madagascar The Musical – UK & International Tour).

Come to a Play and Stay for a Talk
Join us after selected performances for special Post-Show Talks with inspiring guest speakers. We’ll dive into the play’s central theme — The Price of Ambition — and reflect on how it resonates with our own lives today. Pick up a drink at the bar and settle back in for a relaxed 30–45 minute conversation you won’t want to miss.

Blind wine tasting: 8th Annual Battle of Bubbles

      Thursday, December 11 · 7:30 - 10:30pm

Le Comptoir Rodin, Avenue Auguste Rodin 8 1050 Ixelles

Back by popular demand! Join our partner Brandon from Terre Mieli Cieli for his 8th annual "Battle of the Bubbles" pairing off four good Champagnes against a few great Bubbles-That-Must-Not-Be-Called-Champagnes from the rest of the world.

This blind tasting will feature eight sparkling wines, most made in the same traditional method as Champagne, but from a few places you might not expect to make great sparkling wines. To keep things fair and fun, Brandon will cover the labels up-front and ask you to rate each as we go and then and only then will I unveil each wine after you've tasted it.  Who do you think will win this year? Champagne or Rest of World?

An earlybird wine will reward those who come and help us start on time. ;-)

As usual, the wine will be paired with plenty of good food.

The tasting, with a full dinner costs 75 euros for members. Participation is limited to the first 30 people who sign up.

Registration and Cancellations are possible until noon on 8 December, 2025. Participants cancelling after this time, as well as no-shows, are charged the full cost of the event.
