    Flower carpet 2014 | FlowerCarpet

For this 24th edition of the Flower Carpet, Japan will be honored on the Grand-Place this summer.

This year’s flower carpet on Brussels’ Grand Place will celebrate 160 years of diplomatic and friendly relations between Belgium and Japan.

From 13 to 16 August, the iconic Japanese artwork 'The Great Wave of Kanagawa' by artist Hokusai will be recreated using 500,000 dahlias, covering an area of nearly 1,300 square metres.

The flower carpet on the Grand-Place in Brussels is the ultimate expression of ephemeral art, as the work is destined to disappear after just four days on show. Every two years, on the weekend of 15 August, the most beautiful Grand-Place in the world is transformed into an immense showcase of colors, to the delight of visitors aged 7 to 77.

The Flower Carpet is 70 m long by 24 m wide. 1,680 m2 of  begonias, dahlias, grass and bark. More than a hundred volunteers  assemble the carpet in less than six hours.  The first Flower Carpet of Brussels was created in 1971 and  has been a showstopper every two years on the Grand-
Place since 1986.

Brussels rolls out stunning flower carpet- ecns.cn

As the sun goes down, a synchronized sound and light show illuminates the square's historic Gothic facades, beautifully accentuating the flowers

    TERRE MIELI CIELI

    Wine Tasting -

OLD WORLD VS NEW WORLD BLIND TASTING

    SEPTEMBR 17th · 7:30 - 10:30pm

For September, we invite you to blind wine tasting of New World and Old World wines that promises to be both educational and fun.

We will taste eight wines -- four white and four red -- in pairs. For each pair, one of the wines will be from Europe, and the other will be made from the same grapes, and if possible be from the same vintage, but be made somewhere else in the world.

The tasting will show how the same grapes can produce very different results in different regions and terroirs, and test your skills identifying both the grape varieties and the regions from which the wines come.

To make things fun, we'll declare a winner for each round and an overall winner at the end, Old World or New World.

The wines will be paired with plenty of good food. Vegetarian and vegan options are available.

The tasting will take place at the Comptoir Rodin in Ixelles and is limited to the first 30 people who register.

Full refunds are available for cancellations up to 48 hours in advance.

    SOLVAY HOUSE TOUR

Due to popular demand we are organizing a second tour of this beautiful Belgian landmark

The American Club of Brussels invites you for an exceptional tour of this uniquely beautiful landmark of Art Nouveau in Brussels.

Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Monument, the Solvay House is a part of the major Town Houses of the Architect Victor Horta.

In 1894, Armand Solvay, the chemistry magnate, son of the chemist, industrialist and philanthropist Ernest Solvay engaged Horta's services, granting him unlimited freedom of creation and unrestricted funding to bring to fruition the project of a home for his bride in Art Nouveau style. It is located on 224 Avenue Louise.

It was added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2000 as the core of urban residences that Horta designed before 1900.

For this wealthy patron, Horta could spend a fortune on precious materials and expensive details. He designed every single detail: furniture, carpets, light fixtures, tableware and even the doorbell. He used expensive materials such as marble, onyx, bronze, tropical woods, and more.

    The construction lasted 5 years.

Join us on a guided visit of this major realization of Victor Horta in Brussels. Don't miss it!
